教育用計算機システム相談員の有志で運営しているサーバー群を使って開設したホームページがもととなっています。相談員関係(Obsolete)
以前はFreeBSDを触ることもありましたが、ドライバや3rd partyのsoftware/driverがLinuxに比べて少ないことや、Linuxが十分に成長したこともあって、今はほとんど使いません。
ただglibcがFreeBSDのlibcより遅めというのは当たっているかもしれない。
ECCではMac OSXやWindowsXPやRed Hat Linuxを、作業用にはSolaris 9や10を、家ではLinuxやWindows2k(on VMware)をよく使います。
このような環境では、Javaが一番使いやすい言語だと感じます。ただ、最近、Visual Studio Expressが出たようで、漸くどの環境でもC/C++が楽に使えるようになりそうです。(2006)
最近はSolarisをよく使います。いろいろあってSunのWorkstationを触る機会があり、Solaris 10を使うことになりました。ただ、まだいくつかのバグがあったり、gccも対応したばかりだったりと、まだ道のりは険しそうです。
相談員をしていたときは、ftp.ecc.u-tokyo.ac.jpの管理をしていました。Ubuntu Linuxを日本で初めてミラーを始めました。
月500Tでまだまだ少ないようです、というわけで、皆さんもUbuntuをどうぞ。(2007)

研究用途としては、開発環境の揃っているLinuxがやはり一番使い易いです。Gentooで最適化をきかせられるのはライブラリの範囲のみなので、
ビルドの時間を考えても、Debianが無難と思うようになりました。Debianはパッケージの数も多い方ですし、Ubuntuとは選択を迷うところですが、GNUの精神に則れば、Debianでしょうか。(2015)
