行書、草書、楷書の順序

行書は楷書をくずした書体だと思っている人はどのくらいだろうか。いや、そんなことはあたりまえだというのが大体の感想だろうし、自分も、そう思っていた時期は結構長かった。

高校の書道の教科書を紐といてみると、以下のような記載がある。

高校の時の、漢文を教えてくださっていたある国語の先生は、「行書は楷書を崩したものではない、君らが書いている崩し字は判読不能だ、答案で字が汚すぎたら、滅点する」とよくおっしゃっていたが、その真意は、人に読める崩し字（＝行書）は練習してきれいになるもので、適当に書いてはいけないということだったのだろう。ちなみに、草書で書いたものはきちんと読んでもらえたという話が残っている。

普段目にする“崩し字”は、行書でも楷書でもない形の変な字が多くて、書いた本人しか読めないことが多い。

中学校時代から年賀状を毎年やり取りしていると、同級生達の字が年々変わっていくのが感じられることがあって、非常に興味深い。人のことをとやかく言えるほども書けないが、突然ある年から変わったようになったり、まるで昔から練習していましたというような人もいる。練習しているな、と思わせる人のほとんどが、九成宮醴泉銘（欧陽詢）の字体で、やはり、楷書のお手本として一番よく使われているのかな、と思ったりする。ただ、完成されすぎた字体なので、お手本通りかくのだけでも一苦労で、あの字体だと、少し気分が良くない時には字にも如実にそれが現れやすいので、書いている人の気分がぼろぼろと伝わってきたりして、いろいろと面白いものではある。個人的には、孔子廟堂碑（虞世南）を気に入っていたりするが、性格によって好みは様々だろう。
