Firefoxを軽くする方法

リリースを重ねてFirefoxはだいぶ速くなってきましたが、それでも、メモリを大食いするところはなかなか変わりません。いくつかの設定値を変えることでメモリ使用量を減らし、スラッシングを抑えることができます。

セッションヒストリを削減

アドレスに about:config を入力する。（以下の項目では略。）
CTRL-Fで browser.sessionhistory.max_entries を検索する。
デフォルト値の50を5など小さな数に設定する。
browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewersは1.5以上で設定できる。
デフォルト値の-1はメモリに応じた自動設定、0は先読みなしである。（詳細）
Firefoxを再起動する。（以下の項目では略。）

最小化時のメモリ使用量の削減

新しくBoolean（真偽値） config.trim_on_minimize を作成し値を true にする。

メモリ・ディスクキャッシュの最適化

browser.cache.memory.capacity を設定する。（1024KB = 1MB）
目安はメモリ512MBで8192、1GBで16384、2GBで32768である。
browser.cache.disk.capacity を設定する。（1024KB = 1MB）
0でキャッシュを使わない設定となる。

ExtensionやThemesを極力使わない

セーフモードで起動すると軽い場合は、いくつかの使用を削除すると軽くなります。

ダウンロード時のヒストリを記憶しない

Tools - Options - Privacy - History - Remeber download historyをオフにする。

手動でメモリを解放する

Firefoxのメモリ使用量をチェック

アドレスに about:cache?device=memory を入力する。

最適化されたFirefoxを使う

pigfootで入手できるバイナリは、かなり最適化されていて、公式のものより早いことが多いです。P3からP1まであります。最近のマシンではP3で良いでしょう。

P1 build build with -Ox -GLAs -fp:fast -GS-, for Generic CPU
P2 build build with -Ox -GLAs arch:SSE -fp:fast -GS-, for Athlon XP, Duron 1.1 GHz+, Pentium III ,Celeron 500+
P3 build build with -Ox -GLAs arch:SSE2 -fp:fast -GS-, for AMD Athlon 64, Sempron, Opteron processor family, Intel Pentium 4/D/M, Intel Xeon, Intel Atom, Intel Core processor family, and other modern CPU.

束Python's goal is regularity and readability, not succinctness損

On the face of it, this seems a rather damning thing to claim about a
programming language. As far as I can tell, succinctness = power. If so, then
substituting, we get

束Python's goal is regularity and readability, not power.損

and this doesn't seem a tradeoff (if it is a tradeoff) that you'd want to
make. It's not far from saying that Python's goal is not to be effective as a
programming language.
